The Kelowna U18B Heat91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s solid 2017 season continued last weekend with a second-place showing at the Spokane Summer Classic girls fastball tournament.
Facing some top end American competition, the Heat reached the championship final of the tournament against the North Idaho Xtreme. Kelowna carried a 2-1 lead into the fourth inning but couldn91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™t hold off the unbeaten Xtreme in a 6-2 loss.
The North Idaho team also edged the Heat 3-2 earlier in the tournament to open the round robin.
Kelowna91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s second game of the weekend was a 5-5 tie against the Helena Silverstorm, followed up by a 10-1 win over the Cawston Koyotes 10-1, behind a three-run home run by Emily Wright.
In the playoffs, Kelowna defeated the Spokane Crew 8-1. Tyler Carver hit a pair of home runs and had five RBIs, while Racquel Bennett also homered to send the Heat into the final game.
Next up for Kelowna is the Canada Cup at Softball City in White Rock. Kelowna will be looking for a B.C. title July 14 to 16 at High Noon Park when the Heat host the provincial U18B championship.
