It's not something that happens every hockey game but a six-goal second period propelled the Kelowna Rockets to a 8-3 win over the Vancouver Giants on Friday, Nov. 22.
Vancouver actually opened the scoring and were leading 2-1 after the first period. Cameron Schmidt's 23rd goal of the season at the 9:25 mark and Adam Titlbach's seventh at the 13:32 mark sandwiched the lone Rockets goal in the first frame, which came from Jakub Stancl at the 11:57 mark.
Stancl's goal was his ninth of the season and assisted by Andrew Cristall and Max Graham.
The floodgates opened in the second period as the Rockets exploded for six goals to lead 7-2 after two.
In the frame, the Rockets got goals from Cristall, Graham, Michael Cicek, Hiroki Gojsic, Kayden Longley, and Nate Corbet, his first goal with his new team.
Cristall collected assists on the goals from Graham, Cicek, and Corbet to complete his five-point night. He now has 38 points (11 goals, 27 assists) in 14 games played this season and is already fourth in the league in scoring.
In the third period, Longley scored his second goal of the game on the power play. Vancouver added a goal late as Kelowna crusied to the 8-3 win.
Goaltender Jake Pilon made 25 saves in the win for the Rockets.
