The action has begun.

Senior girls basketball teams from all over B.C. have begun their quest for provincial championships, with 64 teams competing in four divisions over four days from the Langley Events Centre.

Here's how teams from the Okanagan fared on Wednesday:

AAAA

The Okanagan went one-for-two in games in the AAAA division. Kelowna Secondary School (KSS) Owls (ranked 10th) defeated the seventh-seeded Charles Best Blue Devils, 56-42. Pacing the way for KSS was guard Mavleen Chahal, who poured in 26 points. The Owls now advance to face the second-seeded Seaquam Seahawks in the quarterfinal slated for 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27. 

Another Kelowna team, The Okanagan Mission Huskies, didn't fare as well. Coming into the tournament as a 12th seed, they lost, 64-24 to the Yale Lions out of Abbotsford. Leading the way for the Huskies was Carsen Carter with eight points. The Huskies will play the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers next, in the consolation side of the bracket.

AAA

The Vernon Secondary School (VSS) Panthers are off to the quarterfinals. In a defensive slog, the Panthers bested the Alberni District Armada, 49-34. Adie Janke paced VSS, with 20 points. The Duchess Park Condors out of Prince George will battle the Panthers in quarters, set for 1:15 p.m. on Thursday.

A

The King's Christian Lions out of Salmon Arm won big, with a 78-35 win over the Vancouver Christian Phoenix. The Lions Moriah Jansen led the way with 36 points, 10 plus rebounds, 10 plus assists and nearly 10 blocks. The Trinity Western Spartan commit helped her fifth-ranked team book a spot in the quarterfinals, where they will face the fourth seeded Unity Christian Flames. Tip is set for 1:45 p.m.

The Aberdeen Hall Gryphons from Kelowna also competed, dropping a tight, 36-34 affair against the Ucluelet Warriors.
