The Kelowna Rockets were looking to extend their WHL winning streak to a season-high six games on Saturday night.
The B.C. Division rival Victoria Royals had other ideas.
Matthew Phillips scored twice and added an assist, as the Royals handed the Rockets 4-1 setback at Prospera Place.
Justin Kirkland scored shorthanded in the first period for the lone goal of the game for the Rockets, who were closing out a five-game homestand.
Kelowna (34-12-3-0) are now just four points ahead of the Royals in the race for first in the both the BC Division and the Western Conference.
Victoria scored three power play goals on four chances, while the Rockets were 0-for-4.
Michael Herringer suffered the loss in net as the Royals outshot Kelowna 34-23.
The Rockets are back in action on Sunday as the team will heads to Kent, WA for a 5 p.m. start against the Seattle Thunderbirds.
