Wednesday provided a strong start to the West Kelowna Warriors three-game Vancouver Island road trip as they doubled up the Alberni Valley Bulldogs 4-2.
The home team opened the scoring early as Bulldogs' Jacob Wingfield scored his sixth goal 2:45 into the game.
Near the halfway mark of the first, Warriors' Jackson Kyrkostas scored his third goal of the season to tie the game. Elias Callgren and Nathan Drapeau assisted on the goal.
Much like the first, Alberni Valley scored early in the second period as Carl Sandstrom to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.
Almost four minutes later, the Warriors tied the game once again as Nathan Drapeau found the back of the net for the first time this season, assisted by Luciano Bruno and Dylan Krayer.
At the 15:07 mark, the duo of Kyrkostas and Callgren joined forces again as Kyrkostas scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Callgren to give West Kelowna a 3-2 lead.
In the third period, Sam LeDrew scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season to double the Warriors lead. LeDrew is the first member of the Warriors to reach double-digit goals this season.
Dawson Labre made 30 saves in the win for the Warriors.
The Warriors remain seventh in the Interior Conference with a record of 8-9-3-1. On Friday, the team continues their Vancouver Island road trip as they take on the Victoria Grizzlies. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
