Words like 91裸聊视频渟kibidi,91裸聊视频� 91裸聊视频渟igma91裸聊视频� and 91裸聊视频済yatt91裸聊视频� now pepper tweens91裸聊视频� sentences, and 91裸聊视频淥hio91裸聊视频� is more than just a U.S. state: it91裸聊视频檚 a state of being.

The issue came up at 11-year-old Dashiell Chinn91裸聊视频檚 summer camp, where he said his counsellor banned the word 91裸聊视频渟kibidi,91裸聊视频� citing its annoyingness and lack of meaning.

Dashiell91裸聊视频檚 dad Wyatt Chinn said he understands the impulse.

91裸聊视频淭hat actually is exactly why we tell Dashiell he shouldn91裸聊视频檛 swear,91裸聊视频� Chinn said. 91裸聊视频淏ecause it91裸聊视频檒l stunt your vocabulary. You91裸聊视频檙e at an age where it91裸聊视频檚 very important to build out your vocabulary and use words that have actual, specific meanings.91裸聊视频�

91裸聊视频淪kibidi91裸聊视频� can be used as an adjective or adverb 91裸聊视频� sometimes replacing 91裸聊视频渃ool91裸聊视频� or 91裸聊视频渂ad91裸聊视频� 91裸聊视频� or it can be repeated ad nauseam for 91裸聊视频渃omedic91裸聊视频� effect. It was popularized in a series of YouTube videos called 91裸聊视频淪kibidi Toilet91裸聊视频� that Chinn said 91裸聊视频渉aunts91裸聊视频� his dreams.

But the word91裸聊视频檚 meaninglessness may be part of its allure, said Sali Tagliamonte, a professor of sociolinguistics at the University of Toronto, who studies language change.

She first heard the word when she was in England, going into different classrooms and teaching teens about language.

91裸聊视频淭hey thought it was a big joke against adults who didn91裸聊视频檛 know what it meant, and they would just use it to confound the adults in the room,91裸聊视频� Tagliamonte said.

The word91裸聊视频檚 popularity is highest among tweens and young teens: members of an age group who want to separate themselves from both little kids and adults.

New slang often bubbles up in this demographic, she noted, as kids move to larger schools or start having a different cohort of classmates for each class. They91裸聊视频檙e exposed to different people, and therefore different language.

What91裸聊视频檚 different from past generations, Tagliamonte said, is the speed of language change.

91裸聊视频淭here91裸聊视频檚 lots more ways to communicate,91裸聊视频� she said. 91裸聊视频淚t91裸聊视频檚 not just speaking on the street but texting on our phones and listening to podcasts and checking in 91裸聊视频� wherever we91裸聊视频檙e going online.91裸聊视频�

That, she said, isn91裸聊视频檛 a bad thing.

91裸聊视频淣obody should be too concerned about new words,91裸聊视频� she said. 91裸聊视频淭hey should just wonder how they came to be and watch where they go. It91裸聊视频檚 fascinating to me.91裸聊视频�

But those quick changes can lead to confusion as the meaning of new words shifts.

Chinn said he91裸聊视频檚 found himself correcting Dashiell91裸聊视频檚 use of words like 91裸聊视频渟us91裸聊视频� 91裸聊视频� which is short for suspicious or suspect 91裸聊视频� and 91裸聊视频渟igma,91裸聊视频� which members of gen Alpha (the successorsto gen Z) have started using to mean 91裸聊视频渃ool.91裸聊视频�

But Chinn said that word in particular worries him, because it91裸聊视频檚 adapted from online content made by boys and young men who tend to vilify women. Those boys don91裸聊视频檛 identify as either 91裸聊视频渁lpha males,91裸聊视频� who are successful with women, or 91裸聊视频渂etas,91裸聊视频� who they believe are weak.

91裸聊视频淪o they say I91裸聊视频檓 a 91裸聊视频榮igma,91裸聊视频� because I91裸聊视频檓 still dominant but I don91裸聊视频檛 have any friends and girls don91裸聊视频檛 like me,91裸聊视频� Chinn said.

He doesn91裸聊视频檛 want his son using words that validate that worldview, he said.

91裸聊视频淚 don91裸聊视频檛 know if they91裸聊视频檙e just perverting words into their own slang, or if they91裸聊视频檙e using them incorrectly,91裸聊视频� he said, before conceding: 91裸聊视频淥r maybe it91裸聊视频檚 evolving.91裸聊视频�
