Resilient, low maintenance ornamental grasses soften the expanse of concrete walkways and ice rink surface at Stuart Park.

The Okanagan Xeriscape Association is offering a free presentation on growing ornamental grasses at the Okanagan Regional Library in Kelowna on Tuesday, May 16 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.

Grasses and grass-like plants are now being used boldly and freely in landscapes. They are chosen for their beauty, longevity and ease of maintenance.

The presentation will address both the aesthetic qualities of grasses in gardens and the opportunities and challenges of using them.

Registered professional biologist Eva Antonijevic, will give practical information about planting, cultivation, propagation and maintenance.

She developed and conducted guided grasses tours for professional groups including landscape architects, the landscaping industry and for gardening clubs. She has extensively studied and photographed the performance of grasses throughout the seasons, and will share her insight into the world of grasses.
