The Okanagan Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (OCRASC) is offering an opportunity for those eager to learn more about astronomy and the wonders of the night sky.

Starting at the first club meeting of the year, OCRASC will introduce a special feature called New Observers to Visual Astronomy (NOVA). This initiative starts with a mini-session covering two topics: How to Use a Planisphere and Navigating with the Big Dipper.

A planisphere is a simple tool for stargazing and participants will also receive a free planisphere to continue exploring on their own. The second part of the session will focus on the Big Dipper. Attendees will discover how this familiar constellation can serve as a guide to locating other celestial features such as Polaris, the North Star.

The NOVA sessions begin at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 14 in Room C-368 of the Science Building at Okanagan College, 1000 KLO Road, Kelowna.

OCRASC meetings are open to the public, and everyone with an interest in astronomy is encouraged to attend. For more information about the society91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s programs and events visit the .
