After a morning of rain, it stopped just in time for the first Diwali event at Don-O-Ray Farm Market.

"We're celebrating Diwali, it's our first time doing this," said owner Jas Sanghara. "We've always thought about doing this, it just came to spirit this year."

In total, it took around six months to put it together and the farm market got some help from the team at the East Kelowna Market.

On top of the usual market, 25 vendors were on hand as well as bouncy castles and face painting for the kids. And of course, freshly made Indian food. 

"We wanted to really express our culture to other communities what Diwali is," added Sanghara. "Right now we're just celebrating the culture side. There's two sides to Diwali, the religious side and the culture side, but at the moment we're trying to let everybody know what Diwali is."

This was the first annual celebration and Sanghara and Don-O-Ray's plan to make it an annual event.

"It was always an inspiration to do it, but it just worked this year, and hopefully next year we can really ramp things up," said Sanghara.

Don-O-Ray's has been in Kelowna since the 1960s and the Sanghara's have owned it since 2004.
