The Kelowna Fire Department's annual open house drew in a large crowd on Oct. 6.

A stretch of Bernard Avenue was closed down to the Sails sculpture at Abbott Street from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. as the street filled with emergency vehicles, personnel and members of the community.

The fire department was joined by Kelowna RCMP, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, BC Ambulance Service, Mario's Towing and Kelowna City Bylaw.

Families had the opportunity to get up close to the emergency vehicles, take a look at some of the tools firefighters use, and a few lucky kids got honk the horn on Mario's large tow truck.

Members of the fire department showcased their skills with a high ropes rescue demonstration.

A by-donation pancake breakfast was served by the Salvation Army with proceeds going to the Firefighters' Burn Fund.
