Turning Point includes the world premiers of 91ƵDelicate Fire91Ƶ and 91ƵMustard91Ƶ

Ballet Kelowna takes to the stage Feb. 16 and 17 to present two world premieres.

CEO and Artistic Director Simone Orlando choreographed for the company for the first time in four years.

91ƵDelicate Fire91Ƶ is inspired by the music of Canadian composer Jocelyn Morlock and is centred around the myth of Aphrodite and Adonis.

91ƵI had the honour of working with Jocelyn on a number of projects through my choreographic career,91Ƶ Orlando said, noting the Morlock passed away in March 2023. 91ƵBut I first became aware of her music back in 2009 when I was creating a piece for Ballet B.C. dancers through a fellowship through the New York Choreographic Institute.91Ƶ

The second piece is called 91ƵMustard91Ƶ choreographed by Robert Stephen.

Stephen91Ƶs piece is an adaptation of an award-winning play by Kat Sandler and focuses on imaginary friends.

91ƵOne of the things that really drew me to Mustard is its childlike sense of wonder,91Ƶ Stephen said. He described it as a family drama and a work that both ballet lovers and newcomers can enjoy.

The double bill 91ƵTurning Point91Ƶ will be presented at the Kelowna Community Theatre. can be purchased online or at the box office.
