Vernon has been gettin' jazzy for a quarter of a century now.
The Vernon Jazz Club is celebrating its 25th anniversary season of bringing live music to the North Okanagan.
"As one of three jazz primary clubs in British Columbia and 2022 nominee for best live music venue in the Okanagan Valley, the Vernon Jazz Club is beloved by artists and audiences alike," said Society board member Jacquie Gijssen.
The 25th anniversary season launches Saturday, Sept. 7 with headliners Fernando Gonzalez, the Mexi-Canadians Quartet with special guest Flor Aguilar.
The Steve Maddock Blues Sextet includes five of B.C.91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s greatest musicians with Maddock Sept. 21.
The Dan Brubeck Trio, including award-winning drummer, storyteller and son of jazz great Dave Brubeck, takes the stage Oct. 5.
Award-winning singer, songwriter, pianist and host of CBC91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s Tonic Jazz Program, the Laila Biali Trio perform Oct. 19.
The Jennifer Scott Quartet, featuring a pianist and vocalist considered one of Canadian Jazz91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s most influential voices, plays Nov. 2.
Celebrating the Okanagan91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s phenomenal music community and the Jazz Club91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s exceptional 25 years, Nov. 16 will star the McMahon Music Experiment.
The Nelson Jazz Collective, hailing from New York and the West Kootenays, featuring Mike Fahey, are in town Nov. 30 .
B3Kings with Denzal Sinclaire, Bill Coon, Chris Gestrin and Cory Weeds in a rare seasonal 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ˜Hammond B91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™ performance Dec. 19.
The Cat Wells Blues Band closes the 25th Anniversary Season out with the blues for New Years Eve Dec. 31.
"Founded in September 1999 with its first 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ˜gigs91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™ in the basement of a local hotel, the Vernon Jazz Club has grown in capacity and renown with hundreds of exceptional regional, provincial, national and international artists having made Vernon their home for a night of music," said Gijssen.
"Since its outset, the Club has sought to give local jazz musicians a regular place to play, encourage music students to play with professionals, support artists to remain current with new trends, give the public access to home-town jazz and professional guest artists, and encourage jazz music in the education system."
The performance space moved to the historic 1906 Vernon Club in January 2000.
Lending its heritage vibe to the identity of the club, this downtown entertainment venue has been home to the Vernon Jazz Club since.
The society is entirely volunteer operated.
