A fundraiser has started for a Kelowna woman in ICU who was struck by a truck and rushed to hospital after crossing the street.
Support is pouring in for the woman, a local Early Childhood Educator (ECE), after she was hit at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Burtch Road on Thursday, Sept. 12.
She is being treated in ICU at Kelowna General Hospital, according to the online fundraiser, which has garnered close to $6,800, as of Sept. 14.
"On a day like any other, Danica's life took a devastating turn," reads the fundraiser, organized by her friend and work colleague Karli Sanderson.
"Though the road to recovery will be long, doctors are optimistic that she will make a full recovery. However, the timeline for her to return to the life she loves remains uncertain."
The incident happened at around noon on Thursday, according to RCMP. Emergency crews responded shortly after, with the incident prompting road closures in the area for several hours.
BC Highway Patrol, more than five hours after the collision, remained on scene investigating the incident.
Along with her achievements as an ECE, she is described as a talented singer, artist, and volleyball player.
Money raised will go toward her medical expenses and any other financial burdens.
A total of 62 donations have come in since the fundraiser launched on Sept. 13.
