Kelowna Karate & Fitness cleaned up on the national stage.

At the National Karate Championships in Toronto on Nov. 25, the Kelowna dojo dominated, bringing home 23 medals - two gold, nine silver, and 12 bronze.

The team of 15 athletes showed they belong in the highest ranks across the country:

Sofia Runzer: gold Kumite, bronze Kata - girls 12-13 years-old division;

Geordie Adlem: gold Kumite - male adults division;

Cayden Adlem: silver Kata, silver Kumite, silver team Kata - boys 12-years-old division;

Max Guilderson: silver Kata, silver team Kata - male 11-years-old division;

Kaela Linsdell: silver Kata, bronze Kumite, Bronze team Kata - girls 14-15 years-old division;

Mervin Guilderson: silver team Kata, bronze Kata - boys 10-years-old division;

Alexander Rugina: silver Kata - male 16-18 years-old division;

Oliver Renz: silver Kumite - boys 11-years-old division;

Tyrel Heredia: bronze Kata, bronze Kumite, bronze team Kata - boys 15-years-old division;

Yuma Nakamura: bronze Kata, bronze Kumite, bronze team Kata - boys 14-years-old division;

Liam Friesen: bronze Kata, bronze Kumite - male adults 19-21 years-old division;

Bodo Papke: bronze kumite - male adults division.

The team will compete in one more national event before participating on the world stage at the World Karate Championships in Gunma, Japan in October 2024.
