Quick action by the Kelowna Fire Department amounted to a Mission area home being saved from a basement fire.
The fire department responded to a report of smoke and flames inside a residence in the 400 Block of Roepel Rd in the Mission area at arond 6:30 p.m May 16.
"The first arriving officer reported visible smoke coming from the rear of the structure and also the soffit area of the roof," said John Kelly, KFD platoon captain, in a press release.
"Upon entering the crew was able to locate a fire in the basement bathroom. The fire was quickly knocked down. The bathroom suffered heavy fire damage with smoke and heat damage to the rest of the basement."
Three Engines, one Rescue, and a Command vehicle, along with RCMP, BCAS, Fortis gas and electric responded to the incident.
The Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind everyone to check your smoke alarms. They do save lives.
