A Sicamous senior is out an undisclosed amount of money after falling victim to a scam under the guise of a Canada Post investigation. 

On Nov. 15 Sicamous RCMP got a report from a local senior stating they had been the victim of a fraud involving Bitcoin after receiving a phone call at her home from a person claiming to be an investigator working for Canada Post.

"The victim was instructed to visit a Bitcoin automated teller machine (ATM) in Salmon Arm and deposit money to an unknown address provided to her in an email exchange with the fraudster," Sgt. Murray McNeil said in a media release.

The senior deposited the money as instructed after being told that she owed money for duty on parcels that she'd received. 

"Police are reminding the public that Canada Post or any other Government agency will not ask a client to deposit money into Bitcoin," McNeil added. "If a person receives a similar phone call, do not engage with the caller and hang up immediately."
