It was a time to celebrate Summerland91裸聊视频檚 waterfront as the replacement of a beloved pier officially opened to the public on July 11.
91裸聊视频淔or me, like many of you, this is a beloved old friend,91裸聊视频 said Connie Denesiuk, a member of the Summerland Rotary Club, and one of the organizers of the pier replacement project.
The new pier was on the same footprint as an earlier pier on the Summerland lakeshore.
That pier, which had opened to the public in 1999, was no longer safe and removal work took place in 2023 and early 2024. When it was removed, most of the pilings had rotted.
The replacement of the pier came in under its budget of $800,000. Core funding came from the $4.53 million the municipality received from the province91裸聊视频檚 Growing Communities Fund.
In a statement to the municipality, Anne Kang, Minister of Municipal Affairs for British Columbia, said the pier is an important community feature.
91裸聊视频淔or decades, Summerland91裸聊视频檚 iconic pier has provided people with a place to experience the beauty of Okanagan Lake,91裸聊视频 she said. 91裸聊视频淲hether it91裸聊视频檚 a refreshing summer swim or a spot to admire the scenery, the Growing Communities Fund is supporting Summerland and ensuring this important amenity remains a vibrant part of the community.91裸聊视频
The pier is a part of Summerland91裸聊视频檚 history. It is in the same location as an earlier wharf which had been constructed in 1910 by the Canadian Pacific Railway. That wharf, in use until 1973, allowed for goods to be transported from railway cars to barges and steamers. It connected Summerland with other communities along Okanagan Lake.
Additional fundraising for the new pier has been ongoing in an effort to provide amenities at the new pier. In November, the Rotary Club of Summerland announced it had raised more than $200,000 for the pier project.
The service club had been working on fundraising for the pier. While an official fundraising target had hoped to raise at least $200,000.
