As the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) kicks off its sixth season, it will see a record 107 Canadians compete.

Out of the 107, which represents 75 per cent of rosters, one hails from the Okanagan, Mason Bourcier.

The Kelowna native will be suiting up for the Winnipeg Sea Bears.

Bourcier is a veteran in the CEBL already, having played for three clubs; Vancouver Bandits (2019), Newfoundland Growlers (2022) and the Calgary Surge last year.

The 24-year-old played for the Manchester Giants of the British Basketball League (BBL) in England this past season, where he played 38 games, averaging six points, 3.9 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game in 23.4 minutes per game.

Prior to his professional career, Bourcier played four seasons in U Sports, two each with the UBC Thunderbirds and Trinity Western Spartans.

In 2022, the do-it-all guard became the first U Sports player in history to record back-to-back triple-doubles and became to first person ever to notch the feat with the Spartans.

In his high school career, Bourcier helped lead the Kelowna Secondary School (KSS) Owls to a provincial championship and an undefeated season in 2016. The following year, he took MVP honours at provincials, as the Owls finished second.

The CEBL season kicks off on Tuesday, May 21 with the Calgary Surge facing off against the Edmonton Stingers. The Sea Bears begin their season on Wednesday, May 22 against the Saskatchewan Rattlers.

The season runs until the end of August, with the championship being hosted in Montreal this year.
