The West Kelowna Warriors are celebrating the 90's classic comedy Happy Gilmore with specialty jerseys on Friday, Nov. 1.

As the calendar flips to November, some teams are starting their season while others are looking for fresh starts.

West Kelowna Warriors

It hasn't been the start of the 2024-25 BCHL season the West Kelowna Warriors were hoping for.

Through the first 13 games of the season, the Warriors are 4-6-2-1 (11 points) and sit fourth in the Interior West division.

The beginning of November provides a tough start for the Warriors as they welcome the BCHL's best in the Brooks Bandits to town on Friday, Nov. 1, but the vibes should be high at Royal LePage Place as it's Happy Gilmore night at the rink.

Brooks comes into the game with the best record in the entire league at 12-1-0-0 (24 points). Earlier in the season, at the BCHL Showcase, the Warriors lost to Brooks 1-0 back on Oct. 16.

The Warriors will be wearing specialty jerseys inspired by a jersey Adam Sandler wore in the movie, Happy Gilmore.

The following night (Saturday, Nov. 2), the Warriors are back in action against one of their Highway 97 rivals as the Vernon Vipers come to town. They're the only team below the Warriors in the Interior West division as they also sit at 11 points but have a record of 4-7-3-0.

Puck drop is also at 7 p.m.

Kelowna Chiefs

The Kelowna Chiefs begin the month up north as they're set to take on the Williams Lake Mustangs on Friday, Nov. 1 and the Quesnel River Rush on Nov. 2.

Entering November, the Chiefs sit last in the Bill Ohlhausen division despite having a 5-4-0-2 record.

Williams Lake leads the Doug Birks division with a 7-7-0-1 record while Quesnel sits fourth with a record of 4-9-0-0.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. on both nights.

UBCO Heat

It's a busy weekend for the UBC Okanagan Heat as the basketball and volleyball seasons begin for both the men's and women's teams.

Basketball

Both basketball teams begin their USPORTS season on the road in Kamloops on Halloween night, Thursday, Oct. 31 to take on the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) Wolfpack. The women play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.

The two teams will then host their home opener on Friday, Nov. 1 when they welcome the UNBC Timberwolves to the UBCO Gymnasium. Tip-off is at 5 p.m. for the women and 7 p.m. for the men.

Volleyball

Both the men's and women's volleyball teams are also in Kamloops, against the TRU Wolfpack.

Additionally, both teams are 2-0 on the season. The TRU men's team is 1-1 to start the season while their women's team is 2-0 and currently ranked the ninth best team in the country.

Men

Nov. 1 - 5:30 P.M.

Nov. 2 - 3:00 P.M.

Women

Nov. 1 - 7:15 P.M.

Nov. 2 - 4:45 P.M.
