A fundraiser has been started for the woman who was struck by a vehicle in downtown Kelowna on Friday, Dec. 13.
Around 7 p.m. a woman named Shayla and her two dogs were crossing the street at the intersection of Water Street at Cawston Avenue when she was struck by a SUV travelling northbound.
Kelowna RCMP confirmed Shayla was taken to hospital with serious injuries. According to the GoFundMe page, she suffered a traumatic brain injury but is showing strength in her recovery. Her dogs were not harmed or injured in the incident.
The driver of the SUV remained on scene and cooperated. According to RCMP, there are no criminal elements at this time.
Shayla is from Ontario and most of her family and friends live there. The money raised from the GoFundMe, which has a goal of $35,000 will help with Shayla's medical expenses as well as travel for her family to come see her.
