The City of West Kelowna was named in a civil claim over unpaid invoices pertaining to the construction of the new city hall.
Segate Mass Timber Inc. filed the claim against the city and Stuart Olson Construction Ltd. on Nov. 17.
The claim states Seagate entered into a subcontract with Stuart Olson on Jan. 17, 2022, 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵœfor the supply of labour, material, and equipment for the installation of mass timber and associated works.91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ
Before any changes in the work, the subcontract had a total value of $430,150, inclusive of taxes, according to the claim.
The work was scheduled to begin on March 10, 2022, however, the claim alleges that because of delays caused by Stuart Olson, work did not begin until July 26, 2022.
Seagate is demanding payment of $697,979.01, which includes the amount of unpaid invoices and associated damages the company claims it suffered due to the delay.
Seagate is claiming a breach of trust and a breach of subcontract.
The defendants have 21 days to file a response to file a counterclaim.
West Kelowna91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ™s new city hall (3731 Old Okanagan Highway) is over budget at more than $22 million, up from the original $18 million cost.
It is expected to open in Jan. or Feb. 2024.
