A new burger restaurant in Vernon was packed with customers on its grand opening day Saturday, Jan. 11.
Owners Harvir Baring and Maninder Mann are excited about the beginnings of their first business venture. The married Kelowna couple recently opened The Fancy Induced Burger, and lineups were out the door for the restaurant's celebratory opening Saturday morning.
As a promotion, The Fancy Induced Burger gave free burgers to the first 100 customers. The restaurant opened at 10 a.m. and within the first hour, a whopping 83 burgers had been served.
"It's my husband's dream," Mann said of opening the burger joint, amid a hectic lunch hour rush when as many as 50 people were crammed in the restaurant, which is at the former location of Local Losers at 3222 30th Avenue.
"We don't use frozen food, everything is fresh," Mann said, "and we have our specialty sauce and a special seasoning."
The Fancy Induced Burger specializes in beef and chicken burgers and has halal and gluten-free options. The "induced" element refers to their use of syringe shots to inject cheese into their burgers, making for a glorious cheese-filled bite. A syringe cheese shot can be added for $1.49.
Mann said so far, the most popular burgers on the menu are the Creamy Mushroom and the BBQ Cheese Dominator. Milkshakes and dessert items such as dipped cheesecakes are also proving popular.
The restaurant also has a liquor licence and seating inside for those who would like a beverage with their meal.
Mann said her husband is in the trucking business, and she herself has a lot of experience in restaurants. Her family has decades of experience in the restaurant industry, she said.
Depending on how successful their first restaurant is, the plan is to open more franchises in the Okanagan.
There are prizes up for grabs for those who dine at The Fancy Burger. For the next week, customers get to enter a draw to win a pair of AirPods or Ray-Ban Meta Glasses.
