The Kelowna Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Club is in need of a new trail groomer as the current groomer, which was purchased in 1999, is on the fritz. 

"Our current equipment is old and continuously breaking down, we absolutely need a new groomer," said Marshall Moleschi, President of Kelowna Nordic Ski and Snowshoe Club.

Unfortunately, the club 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ“ which is located near Big White Ski resort 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ“ recently learned that is was unsuccessful in receiving a $250,000 Community Gaming Capital Project Grant from the BC government.

91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵœ"The grant would have gone a long way towards solving our grooming dilemma... Now we will need to find ways to raise the estimated $500,000 plus within our community. That is a huge task, but it is essential for the continuation of the club," said Moleschi. 

The two machines used for snow grooming at Kelowna Nordic are at the end of their effective lifespan. The oldest of the two PistenBully brand machines was purchased in 1999 and has more than 13,000 hours of use 91ÂãÁÄÊÓƵ“ far surpassing what is typically expected. When the machines break down the well-used skate and classic ski trails go un-groomed and cannot be enjoyed by skiers. More than 20km of the ski trails are also dog-friendly. 

The cost of a new PistenBully 400, with all the needed attachments, is more than $700,000.

A fundraiser for a groomer and has been started, with approximately $90,000 raised to date.
